10 Best Documentary Films To Watch On Disney+

3. Apollo: Missions To The Moon

Apollo: Missions to the Moon covers the full twelve manned Apollo missions, instead of centering on the Apollo 11 mission. The film is full of optimism and hope, making it a perfect fit for Disney+.

The film opens with an introduction from Walt Disney himself, recorded at a time when he was describing the Man and the Moon episode at Disneyland, speaking about how his Tomorrowland had the idea of a futuristic rocket that would take us all into space.

The film is a loving tribute to this time of exploration, lamenting the (at the time) fact that space exploration had not truly returned yet. While SpaceX may offer new hope in that regard, the film is a piece of beautiful history.

It is assembled from primary sources - television clips, radio recordings, videos from the time and previously unheard Mission Control audio. The film sweeps the viewer up in the excitement and optimism of the time. Hearing those voices from the past return to talk about their hopes for the future, it is hard not to feel the passion that went into these projects.

National Geographic feels at home on Disney+, as it is Walt who spearheaded the nature documentary art with his true life adventure films. This is one to watch for those who want to sink into history while seeing something that gives hope for the future.
