10 Best Dragons In Film & TV
7. Haku - Spirited Away
Spirited Away is such a brilliant movie, packed with colourful characters at every turn. Chihiro and No Face tend to be the most recognisable, but Haku is a great character worthy of recognition.
A long, snake like dragon in the eastern tradition, Haku is similar to Jake Long in that he’s both boy and dragon. Appearing initially as a young teenager, Haku acts as Chihiro’s guide through the spirit world, though he’s not always around to help her.
As a dragon, he offers guidance of a more philosophical nature, acting wise and kind, though he is prone to being quite strict as well. Characters tell various contradictory stories about him, and Chihiro is never sure whether she can trust him.
As a result, we don’t either, and he becomes a much more interesting and layered character as a result.
Studio Ghibli movies are frequently vibrant with magical, complex characters and Haku joins a long and illustrious list. Perhaps surprisingly, given their penchant for mythology, Studio Ghibli haven’t done dragons all that often.
Through Haku though, they have a wonderful dragon in their roster.
