When it comes to unique droids, there are few who are more special or unique than L3-37. She was a pilot droid who worked with Lando Calrissian while he was still in possession of the Millennium Falcon. But a droid being a pilot is not unique and that certainly is not what set her apart from her contemporaries.
By her own admission, L3 was originally built in a factory somewhere in the galaxy, though she didn't know or care which one it was. Over her life, she upgraded herself with other parts until she was an incredibly unique droid with a personality to match. L3 was also dedicated to the rights of droids, something that was rarely talked about.
During a mission to Kessel with Lando, Han Solo and Chewbacca, L3 was shot. Before she died, Lando integrated her programming with the Millennium Falcon's onboard systems. As such, she has played a role in every adventure and mission the Falcon has been on since, making her a subtle but key part of the Star Wars narrative.
