The best advice anyone can give you about Bee Tee is to stand behind him at all times. Most, if not all, of the guns the little assassin droid is loaded with are forward facing. There's less of a chance of him turning you into a fine red mist if he can't see you. The operative word in that sentence is "less" as he's still going to try to kill you.
Designed to look like a typical astromech droid, BT-1 was developed by the Tarkin Initiative, a secret think tank put together by Governor Tarkin to create new and inventive ways of killing people. Bee Tee straight up murdered everyone in the base he was created on, then launched himself into space after setting the self-destruct.
Doctor Aphra found him floating around, and activated him with the help of the killer protocol droid, Triple Zero. Bee Tee's short but incredibly violent career included stints with Aphra and Darth Vader. In the end, it was Vader who destroyed the droid, though Bee Tee seems like the kind of guy always on the verge of making a comeback.
