10 Best Erotic Thrillers Ever
3. Naked Killer
As we've established, the erotic thriller very often works best as something of a guilty pleasure, embracing an unabashedly excessive approach with little concern about taste and decency. This is without a doubt the case with this 1992 Hong Kong production from director Clarence Fok Yiu-leung.
One of the most celebrated of Hong Kong's 'Category III' films (restricted to audiences over 18), Naked Killer is a hyper-kinetic, gleefully ridiculous Eastern variation on Western erotic thriller motifs. Chingmy Yau takes the lead as Kitty, an alluring but highly aggressive young woman enlisted to an elite sorority of female assassins, for whom seduction is part of the job.
It's a patently absurd premise, made all the more absurd by a succession of lurid plot devices: a serial killer who leaves victims castrated; a traumatised cop who vomits every time he sees a gun; Kitty's extraordinary readiness to stab men in the crotch.
Even so, Naked Killer delivers action sequences of as high a calibre as just about anything produced in Hong Kong at the time, whilst plastering on the sex appeal good and thick. It's all very silly and sleazy, no doubt about it, but it's also tremendously entertaining.
