10 Best Fictional Planets In Sci-Fi Movies

8. Miller's Planet, Interstellar

Impressive though entirely inhospitable, Miller's Planet in Christopher Nolan's 2014 sci-fi epic Interstellar is a fascinating intergalactic force to be reckoned with.

The planet experiences time dilation of one surface hour to seven years outside of its atmosphere, sitting just on the edge of the gravitational pull of Gargantua, the rapidly spinning black hole (as fun as it sounds) that Miller's Planet orbits.

Taking its name from its discoverer, Dr Miller, the planet is shallow and water-surfaced, with a sea-like appearance that Kamino would be jealous of. At 130% Earth's gravity, it is a tough slog to get around, but not impossible. The real rub, however, is the tidal waves: gigantic walls of ocean that roam the surface looking for their next victim, and which have eroded any land masses that may have existed on the planet beforehand.

Needless to say, Miller's Planet does not harbour much, if any, natural life - and certainly no Matthew McConaugheys.
