10 Best Fictional Planets In Sci-Fi Movies
7. Caladan, Dune
Brought to life from the pages of Frank Herbert's epic Dune trilogy, Caladan is an oceanic world that orbits Delta Pavonis, and was the home of the royal House Atreides for thousands of years prior to their move to the desert planet Arrakis (the titular Dune).
Another wet and wild galactic wonder, Caladan somewhat resembles Earth from space, with an abundance of green and blue. It is frequently raining and much of its surface is covered with rivers, lakes and oceans, with a complex underwater ecosystem. But the planet is also home to many mountains and areas of land that its inhabitants built grand and especially comfortable edifices upon.
Dune, and thus Caladan, has been adapted - or attempted (see: Alejandro Jodorowsky, who famously spent the budget without filming a single shot) - in many forms, both on film and as television series. Most notably, though, are David Lynch's maligned 1984 take and Denis Villeneuve's upcoming Dune (2021), the latter of which bears some resemblance to the Star Wars sequels' Ahch-To.
