10 Best Fictional Planets In Sci-Fi Movies
5. Krypton, Superman
Immortalised in more films than any other planet in this article, Krypton is the homeworld of Superman (Kal-El) - the so-called 'last son of Krypton'.
A once-proud, advanced, technologically capable and architecturally beautiful world, Krypton has suffered many fates on film, but all ending in destruction, creating, or at the very least scattering, the harmful green mineral kryptonite.
In the first Christopher Reeve Superman flick, Krypton is all ice and grey skies, with the planet's inhabitants, the Kryptonians, having a Vulcan-like demeanour. In the same vein, Bryan Singer's Superman Returns shows Clark returning to a desolate and dead icy planet prior to its final destruction.
More recently, in Zack Snyder's 2013 franchise reboot, Man of Steel, the man of steel himself never gets to consciously visit Krypton, as he is sent away from a destabilised planet, which goes kaboom shortly thereafter. Nonetheless, we get to witness a vision of a blended natural and artificial wonder that is light years ahead of Earth in every sense of beauty, creativity and innovation.
