10 Best Fight Scenes In The Matrix Franchise

Everything that has a beginning, has an end...

And every good action film has to have at least one fistfight in the rain. It's a quintessential symbol of a climactic showdown; and staying true to the heart of a glorious showdown, the Wachowskis chose to have Neo and the Alpha Smith duke it out one last time under a midnight sky, flooding rain and operatic choir singing.

This is Neo at his lowest - he's lost Trinity and has nothing else to live for, but everything to lose for the other humans. This is also Smith at his most powerful (we are to assume he is fighting as the Oracle-infected Smith). Both powerhouses are fighting with all their might and strength, and it's made most obvious when impact craters and shockwave-bubbles start tearing through the city.

At the franchise' most slow-motion crazed, the entire fight plays like something inspired by Dragonball Z episodes (and most certainly Man of Steel borrowed from this too). As Neo and Smith take to the skies, their crashing into each other becomes more elaborate and impacting until their fight climaxes back in an impact crater, where Neo succumbs to Smith's will and allows himself to be infected.

But jokes on you Smithy! As the chubby baby-faced Sentinel in the real world uses Neo as a Trojan Horse to wipe Smith out for good, and reset the Matrix to its factory settings - all is right in the world, but our hero Neo sacrificed himself in the process.
