10 Best Film Remakes Of All Time

3. The Fly (1986)

Dawn Of The Dead 2004
20th Century Fox

The legendary body-horror of David Cronenberg was not the first time man and insect had merged - the 1958 film was a sci-fi B-movie horror based on a short story written the previous year, and starring horror legend Vincent Price as the brother of the unfortunate scientist.

Both films used the theme of tampering with the unknown to mix a scientist and a fly through a teleporter incident, and the original was considered good for doing so despite the horrific imagery of a man’s fly-head being crushed under a hydraulic press.

But it’s David Cronenberg’s remake where the horror takes front-and-center stage. In the original film, the transformation was instant and off-screen, with the fly instincts taking over as the film progressed. But in the remake, it’s a slow, terrifying process, making you watch every single little change and letting you languish in every horrible moment until the very end.

Carried by amazing special effects and great acting by Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis, the remake ups the ante in every way, and is now known as one of the best horrors ever made.
