10 Best Films Set During The Great Depression

5. The Sting

This delightful 1973 Best Picture winner is perhaps one of the most fun films to watch from start to finish on this list From the whimsy of the legendary score by Marvin Hamlisch, to the can't-miss duo of Robert Redford and Paul Newman in the leads, The Sting is one of the greatest and most entertaining caper flicks in all of film. Redford and Newman play Johnny Hooker and Henry Gondorff, two Depression-era men seeking revenge for the murder of a close friend. Their scheme has them taking on a corrupt banker (Robert Shaw) in an ingenious plot that is magnificent in its twists and turns, and last-minute trickery.
