10 Best Films Where The Kidnapper Got The Girl

1. King Kong (2005)

V for Vendetta
Universal Studios

In the 1933 version of King Kong there was hardly any emotional connection between captured Ann Darrow and Kong. She simply cowered in terror as he saved her from various dinosaurs. However, Peter Jackson’s beautifully-shot 2005 version of the story spent a much greater time showing the pair developing a relationship, arguably making the story a lot more interesting and giving it depth.

Betrayed by filmmaker Carl Denham, who was clearly more interested in filming Kong than ensuring her safety, Naomi Watts’ Ann moves past her fear and starts to feel sympathy and understanding for her captor. She endeavours to humanize his actions and read his intentions. She dances and juggles to entertain him, making him laugh and cementing their bond.

Back in New York, Ann refuses to be part of the Broadway show with the captured Kong, and even when he is rampaging around the city, she attempts to comfort him and calm him down instead of running. She may have ended up with Jack Driscoll romantically, but she was willing to risk her life to try and save her abductor, and definitely established a loyal attachment to him following her kidnapping.
