10 Best Films Where The Kidnapper Got The Girl

2. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954)

V for Vendetta
Loew's, Inc.

This colourful, musical, feel-good story, set in 1850s Oregon, has been heavily romanticised over the years considering its content. Beautiful Milly is charmed by woodsman Adam into marrying him, despite only knowing him for a short time. However, in a twist akin to a darker version of Snow White, she realises he only wanted someone to cook and clean for him and his six brothers.

Convinced to stay, she starts to warm to Adam and his brothers, and decides to help them all find wives. They find six girls who take their fancy, but they all have boyfriends already, so the brothers kidnap them and cause an avalanche, trapping them all in the cabin. The angry women force the men out to live in the barn and stay in the house together, but by the time the winter snow is thawing, they have all been totally won over by their captors.

The film definitely has the most occurrences of Stockholm Syndrome in one story, but it is presented as a fun, exciting and upbeat film that somehow has you rooting for the captors, who are presented as the more worthy partners for the ladies.

A ridiculous 'Spartacus' scenario occurs at the end when all the women claim Milly's baby is theirs when confronted by their families attempting to rescue them. Six shot gun weddings ensue and we get a slightly forced happy ending.
