10 Best Films Where The Kidnapper Got The Girl
9. The Cannonball Run (1981)
Classic action-comedy The Cannonball Run has quite a questionable kidnapping scenario but the film is so much fun and Burt Rennolds is so charming it makes you overlook your misgivings and root for him to get the girl. Farah Fawcett's Pamela is also beautiful and such an endearing character, you cannot help but like her. Together, they are a winning team, even if they don't end up winning the race.
Rennolds plays racing driver JJ McClure, who enters the infamous Cannonball Run cross country race with his friend Victor. They hit on the fantastic idea that if they are driving an ambulance they will have a believable reason to speed through traffic. To make their story more convincing they hire a slightly suspect doctor, and McClure unsuccessfully attempts to persuade Pamela to come along as their patient.
Pamela is involved in a minor car crash and flags down a passing ambulance for help. Unfortunately for her, the ambulance is McClure's and he and his team kidnap and drug her, using her to get past a state trooper blockade in New Jersey. Despite this pretty horrifying start, the chemistry between her and McClure and the excitement of the race mean by the finishing line she has well and truly fallen for him.
