10 Best Final Lines From MCU Characters
5. "I'll Just... Catch My Breath" - Aunt May
The Line
"I'll just... catch my breath."
Why It's Awesome
From the moment in Spider-Man: No Way Home that Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) told Peter Parker (Tom Holland), "With great power, there must also come great responsibility," it was clear to fans that her minutes were numbered.
Moments later, it's made clear that May has been gravely wounded by the Green Goblin's (Willem Dafoe) assault, yet she repeatedly insists to Peter that she simply needs to catch her breath. Within a few seconds, though, she's dead.
May downplaying her own demise and worrying only about Peter is pretty much the most on-brand Aunt May thing ever, and rather than indulge in a melodramatic, sentimental, lengthy exchange between the two, May's gone before Peter even really has time to process what's happening.
It's one of the film's more impressively restrained moments, finally giving the MCU's Spider-Man his own devastating "Uncle Ben moment" in the process.
