10 Best Friendships In Horror Movies
7. Shaun And Ed - Shaun Of The Dead
Okay, understandably a few eyebrows may be raised at this entry and rightfully so. We’re bending the rules here, as Shaun of the Dead’s appeal is predominantly comical. However, it still has enough moments that instil unease and its satire is solely based on one of horror's most celebrated yet tired tropes: zombies.
At the centre of it all, we have a group of friends: the titular Shaun, his ex/reluctant girlfriend Liz, his mother and stepdad Barbara and Phil and his frenemies: the failed actress Dianne and her betrothed tw*t of a boyfriend David. However, though, the bonds forged with all the previously mentioned companions pale compared to the central and utterly captivating friendship of Shaun and his eternal best friend, Ed.
Throughout the apocalyptic events that would normally serve as more of a focal point in films such as these, Shaun, time after time takes Ed’s side with hilariously disastrous results. He undergoes intense arguments with his roommate; he saves him after putting them in peril, resulting in the death of more than one of the surrounding members of his party; and above all else, he saves him even after he’s become a flesh-eating monster, deciding to keep him in his shed for a cheeky game of TimeSplitters, even if it means he gets a little too snappy from time to time.
