7. Neytiri - Avatar
Avatar may have been lacking in regards to its narrative and character work, but the world of film would look entirely different today were it not for this ground-breaking epic. James Cameron's unbelievable production was genuinely immersing, and never before had an alien world been so believable.
Sadly, the film does receive valid criticism in regards to the incredibly unoriginal narrative, but it's clear that this wasn't the main focus of the title. Despite the lacklustre story, the character of Neytiri is still thoroughly enjoyable and played to a high standard by Zoe Salanda and the CG creation behind her.
Neytiri is the audience's guide through the planet of Pandora and the culture of the Na'vi. As she takes our protagonist through the nature and society of this entirely alien culture, she eases us into it as well, making her instantly likeable and crucial for the film to work.
Her design is breathtaking, as the Na'vi look incredible and are steeped in personality. This, combined with the compelling emotion brought forward from Salanda, makes the character one of the best fully CG creations in sci-fi.
