9. Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990)
Gremlins 2 is very out there, even occasionally going full meta, with one inexplicable scene involving Hulk Hogan (playing himself) yelling directly at us, the audience. It has no relevance to the plot, but it’s awesome.
Where the first film used comedic elements to season a relatively sincere and at times pretty scary monster movie, Gremlins 2 wears its comedy firmly on the sleeve. It is also so heavy on pop-culture references that at times they threaten to derail the whole movie. Everything from a winged gremlin creating a Batman logo to Gizmo pretending to be Rambo is littered throughout.
It is barrels of fun, some of it pretty terrible, but most of it is a riot if you turn your brain off and just allow yourself to go along for the ride. Even director Joe Dante himself prefers this sequel to the original. Although not sure we'd go that far.
