10 Best Hard Rock Songs Used In Movies

9. Wake Up - The Matrix

It's hard not to see the Matrix movies as somewhat of a mixed blessing in retrospect. Though the idea of using the changing technology of the time was a novel idea at the turn of the millennium, an over-reliance on slow motion and the crazy amounts of CGI ended up biting some film companies in the ass when everyone tried to do their own version of it. Then again, sometimes you need the right music to really seal the deal.

Towards the end of the first Matrix movie, Neo walks out into the busy streets as the heavy sounds of Rage Against the Machine start playing just before the credits. While it's not out of the question for action movies to end on some big rock and roll song, there's a lot more going on when you look at the title of the song: Wake Up. Written about corrupt leaders trying to pull wool over the public's eyes, this actually works perfectly within the context of the film.

As Neo walks out into the rest of the world, it's almost as if the music is actually making you question the legitimacy of the scene, not knowing whether this is actually real or another simulation. For as edgy as the song might sound on paper, the more you dive into it, the more you'll appreciate its place at the end of the film.
