10 Best Hard Rock Songs Used In Movies

8. I'm Shipping Up to Boston - The Departed

From front to back, the Departed is a bit of a heavy film to say the least. Looking through the deep underbelly of crime happening on the East Coast, Martin Scorsese's gritty drama is one of the many triumphs from the film legend. Though some films might take a while to settle into its groove, you know exactly what you're in for with this movie from the moment the bagpipes start.

As the story unfolds to find Leonardo DiCaprio being released from jail, the Dropkick Murphys' cover of I'm Shipping Up to Boston is one of the most ideal songs to be playing. Whereas the original was just a simple folk tune, the Murphys' version is a lot more punk influenced, almost as if they're describing an all out war that's going on in the viewer's mind. While some would argue it ruins the original song, it's untouchable within the context of the movie.

As we meet other characters throughout the film, this is pretty much the ideal kind of soundtrack fodder for them to work with, complete with a shout along chorus that sounds like it could have been played in a dirty bar just off the beaten path. This doesn't promise that this movie is going to be fun, but it's sure to be one hell of a ride regardless.
