3. Spree (2020)
This film had all it needed to be a mainstream hit. It starred the delightful Joe Keery (of Stranger Things fame) in the leading role, had plenty of topical things to say about viral content, and was executive-produced by Drake. Sadly, it flew under the radar despite everything it had going for it.
Spree follows Kurt Kunkle (Joe Keery), a young rideshare driver with a desperate desire to become a social media megastar. After years of failure trying to make it big, he pulls an epic stunt to gain internet fame by murdering all his passengers and livestreaming the entire thing.
It goes without saying that the film throws heavy shade at the social-media consumption that is present in the modern day. Does it do so with any sense of subtlety or nuance? Honestly, not really, but you'll still have a blast watching this deranged lunatic's murder spree.
Keery shines in the role, which is no surprise given the thing is a star vehicle (pun intended) for him. It's worth watching for his performance, the kills, and the high-energy pacing.
