10 Best Hidden Gem Movies Of 2019
5. Parasite
Parasite is a South Korean black comedy/thriller film written and directed by Bong Joon-ho. The film stars Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik, and Park So-dam, and follows an interesting premise that plays off the title. The story revolves around the members of a poor household, who scheme to become the employees of a much wealthier family.
Their scheme requires that they each pose as completely unrelated, yet highly qualified individuals; hence, the name Parasite certainly applies. The movie premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the distinction of being the first Korean film to win the coveted Palme d'Or with a unanimous vote.
The film also received the honor of being the South Korean entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards set to air in early 2020. The movie was highly acclaimed across the globe, and it was also a financial success, but not in blockbuster terms.
Parasite was widely recognized as one of the best foreign films of the year, and it has received 122 award nominations by December 2019. So far, it has won almost half, with 60 award wins, and that number will likely continue to rise.
