Whether intentional or not, John Wick: Chapter 3's combination of motorcycle chase and sword-fight is heavily indebted to 2017's incredible South Korean actioner The Villainess, with heroine Sook-hee proving herself every bit the bada** that Keanu Reeves' titular sharp-suited assassin is.

The movie is essentially wall-to-wall action from the very first frame, incorporating everything from first-person perspectives to fight sequences set entirely within the confines of a moving bus, but the highway chase remains The Villainess' standout moment for its sheer inventiveness, in-your-face camerawork and a preference for letting the battle unfold in long takes, which is something of a rarity in modern action cinema.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
