10 Best Highway Action Scenes In Cinema History

3. The Raid 2

Somehow, an Indonesian martial arts movie directed by a Welshman turned out to be one of the greatest entries that the genre had seen in years, and after amassing a huge following the pressure was on for Gareth Evans to deliver a worthy sequel to The Raid.

The sequel expanded the mythology and offered a deeper and more complex narrative when compared to the bare-bones high concept of the original, and naturally the action followed suit. Not content with a series of formulaic shootouts and bare-knuckle brawls, Evans decided that the best way to suit a car chase would be to hardly make it a car chase at all.

Instead, The Raid 2's standout sequence is a combination of a chase, an escape and hand-to-hand combat all at the same time, with the director once again proving himself to be one of the greats when it came to the staging and composition of high-octane action as the camera dizzyingly follows the evens happening beside, inside, outside and all around Iko Uwais' Rama.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
