10 Best Horror Comedies Of The 2020s (So Far)
9. Day Shift
In this Netflix original, Jamie Foxx portrays a blue-collar dad called Bud Jablonski who moonlights (or sunlights) as a vampire hunter.
The premise may be paper-thin, but everybody in this production brings their A-game. The project was helmed by JJ Perry, who coordinated stunts in franchises like John Wick and The Fast and Furious, so it's no surprise the action is on another level. Though modern action usually relies on excessive CGI, these scenes were brought to life with practical effects and a masterful stunt team.
As silly as the concept is, Foxx plays up the drama, which makes it funnier when his character is thrown into absurd scenarios, like when he learns a yoga studio is a front for a vampire nest.
Though Foxx dominates every scene he's in, the rest of the ensemble hold their own. Dave Franco is great as the bureaucratic sidekick, creating an entertaining dynamic with the lead star. Snoop Dogg makes a memorable appearance as a vamp slayer, oozing charisma every time he appears.
Due to the incredibly choreographed bouts, intense car chases, and hilarious banter, Day Shift is a horror comedy worth sinking your teeth into.
