10 Best Horror Films To Watch On Netflix This Halloween
2. It Follows
The Film:
Sex isn't advisable in horror movies; bottom line is, if you bump uglies there's a good chance you'll be slain before the post coital cigarette is even down to the tip. But this genre dilemma of sex equals death was turned on its head in 2014 thanks to It Follows. Originally a Cannes Film Festival darling, David Robert Mitchell's tale of a deadly fate that is cast on teens through 'doing the deed' soon found itself at the top of many an end of year list, and rightly so.
While the scholarly inklings in all of us encourage an examination what this movie is really trying to say (is this a commentary of sexual transmitted diseases or the destruction of youth deals?) it's the scares that will have you watching this one during Halloween.
Instead of having one big bad, Mitchell throws crazy naked women, eerie hospital patients and (see below) a lurking menace at us, in a picture that has no real sense of time or place. Unsettling stuff.
Big Scare:
A jittery Jay is holed in her sisters room and there is a knock at the door, thankfully, it's pal Yara. Just as she is let in, a tall man with no eyes struts in. Talk about being sneakily lulled into a false sense of security.
