10 Best Horror Movie Crossovers

2. Freddy Vs Jason (2003)

King Kong Vs Godzilla

The crossover of these two horror legends was hinted at the ending of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday back in 1993 when Freddy’s glove is seen to drag Jason’s mask into the ground after he was defeated by his niece Jessica. Freddy had similarly been killed by his daughter Katherine at the end of Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare so Freddy vs Jason opened with both currently trapped in Hell.

The premise of how these two characters could be brought together was that the residents of Springwood had forgotten about Freddy, leaving him unable to attack them in their dreams.

Freddy manages to bring Jason back from Hell, and encourages him to goes on a killing spree in Elm Street to make the kids think Freddy’s back and remember him. Freddy breaks the fourth wall quite a few times, telling the audience his plans.

Several of the locations from the original films are revisited, including Freddy’s house, the psychiatric hospital from Dream Warriors and Camp Crystal Lake. However, the film invents a few new details about the characters, such as Freddy using the fact that Jason is terrified of water because he drowned. This phobia has never been shown in any of the previous films, but is now pivotal to defeating him.

The film is a very entertaining ride with lots of inventive kills and some great dream sequences (including Freddy ripping Kelly Rowland’s nose off!). The ending shows Jason carrying Freddy’s severed head out of the lake, which then turns and winks at the camera, showing he is not dead.

Although no film sequel, there was a comic book sequel called Freddy vs Jason vs Ash, in 2007 where Ash from Evil Dead is called to the Crystal Lake S Mart to train some new employees and finds the Necronomican in the Voorhees house.
