10 Best Horror Movie Crossovers

1. Alien Vs Predator (2004)

King Kong Vs Godzilla
20th Century Fox

AVP started life in the Dark Horse series of comic books in 1989, two years after the original Predator film and ten years after Alien. It was hinted at during the ending of Predator 2, where Danny Glover discovers a xenomorph skull in a trophy cabinet in the predator spaceship but took a full 14 years until the crossover was finally realised as a film.

Set in 2004, it creates a slight continuity error in the franchise as xenomorphs were supposed to have been created by android David in Alien Covenant which was set 100 years later in 2104. The film takes this discrepancy even further with the reveal that the Yautia predators have been breeding and hunting xenomorphs on Earth for hundreds of years in order to fulfil a ritual for transitioning into adulthood.

However, if you ignore this and just enjoy it for what it is, you get quite a fun film that has similarities to the setting and concept of The Thing and features plenty of both creatures, including some great practical effects for the xenomorphs (although not such great CGI effects for the blood!).

The film includes Charles Bishop Weyland as the CEO of Weyland Corporation, played by Lance Henriksen. This has introduced as a theory that he was the original inspiration for the design of Bishop the android in Aliens and Alien 3 and suggesting the Michael Bishop Weyland was in fact also an android.

As with the previous Predator films, the humans are only attacked when they are shown to be a threat, which is used to the benefit and detriment of different characters. As a nice nod to the original, a couple of the crew also utter Arnie’s famous line when they see their faces.

The film ends on a cliff-hanger, leading into the sequel. The last human Lex is left behind after proving herself worthy to the predators by saving one of them, but his rescue is cut short after a chest bursting xenomorph appears from his body shortly after being taken on to his spaceship.
