10 Best Horror Movie Misdirections Ever

4. The UFO IS The Alien - Nope

Trick R Treat
Universal

When the final trailer for Jordan Peele's sci-fi horror film Nope blatantly revealed what the UFO looked like, people were outraged that the marketing gave away what should've been a surprising moment in the movie itself.

But Peele, ever the sneaky devil, knew precisely what he was doing.

Through the bulk of the film, we're led to believe that this very typical-looking flying saucer is the spacecraft within which the aliens are contained, yet in the third act we learn that this craft is the alien, dubbed "Jean Jacket" by protagonist OJ (Daniel Kaluuya).

In addition to the saucer being the alien's biological form rather than a vehicle, it also unfurls itself to reveal its larger, "natural" jellyfish-like form, which is quite unlike any other cinematic extraterrestrial ever glimpsed before.

We all played perfectly into Peele's hands, believing that we'd seen only a UFO and the aliens would be revealed later, when in fact we were looking at Jean Jacket itself all along.
