10 Best Horror Movie Misdirections Ever
2. Laurie Is A Werewolf - Trick 'R Treat
2007's cult classic horror anthology Trick 'r Treat is just a damn delight, and perhaps the most entertaining part of the entire movie? The reveal of Laurie's (Anna Paquin) true nature in the short story "Surprise Party."
From the moment we meet her, Laurie has Final Girl written all over her - she seems shy and innocent, and of course shares her first name with one of the most iconic Final Girls in horror history.
Hell, she even wears a Little Red Riding Hood costume, only further seeming to confirm her heroism.
And when she's preyed upon by serial killer Steven Wilkins (Dylan Baker), it seems like she'll have to use her wiles to defeat him, only for it to be revealed that Laurie and her friends aren't hapless victims at all - they're actually werewolves.
More to the point, this is Laurie's first time preparing to eat someone, moments before she transforms and tucks into Wilkins.
This is a superb misdirect which plays perfectly off the audience's assumptions about the genre, about "defenseless" young women, and of who they should actually be afraid of.
