10 Best Horror Movie Opening Scenes Of The 2020s (So Far)

9. Final Destination Bloodlines

The latest Final Destination had plenty to live up to, since it was the first new instalment in 14 years. More importantly, it served as the last movie of horror icon Tony Todd, who played the recurring mortician, William Bludworth. (Rest in peace, Candyman.)

Based on the opening sequence, it was quickly apparent this long-awaited sequel was in safe hands.

Bloodlines starts in 1969, with Iris and her boyfriend, Paul, attending a Space Needle-like restaurant. As Paul is about to propose, Iris has a premonition that the high-rise tower will collapse. Even though the initial catastrophe in each Final Destination is horrific, this is the most violent and creative one yet. Well, apart from the car pile-up in Final Destination 2 - nothing can top that.

Having the guests dancing carefree to the Isley Brothers' Shout juxtapositions perfectly with the inevitable chaos, especially while the glass below their feet starts cracking and splintering. As Iris senses danger, there are brief cuts of blood-coloured drinks, slabs of carved meat, and fiery pans, hinting at the ensuing bloodbath.

Once the glass floor shatters, all hell breaks loose, with people falling hundreds of feet below, being incinerated by fire, or having elevators slice them in half. Many guests take incredible steps to survive, which makes it more horrific when they meet with a sticky end.
