10 Best Horror Movie Performances Of 2024 So Far
5. Mia Goth - MaXXXine
After astounding audiences and critics with her scene-stealing roles in X and Pearl, Mia Goth continued to show her star quality in MaXXXine.
The third entry in Ti West's horror trilogy, this film takes place six years after the grisly climax of X as adult film star Maxine Minx (Goth) gets her first role in a mainstream horror film. However, when the actions of a serial killer threaten to destroy her dreams of stardom, Maxine will stop at nothing to get the life that she believes she deserves.
Swapping the '70s-inspired exploitation style of X with the neon-soaked video nasty aesthetics of the 1980s, MaXXXine is a loving homage to the decade which spawned some of the greatest horror classics of all time, and Goth is just as mesmerising here as she was in those previous films. Her ability to seamlessly transition into a psychotic killer is part of what makes these films so engrossing to watch and why her characters have become modern horror icons.
Although MaXXXine is considered to be the weaker entry in the trilogy by critics, Goth's presence alone is more than enough to make seeking out this throwback to '80s horror worth the effort.
