8. Thomas Sharpe - Crimson Peak

Dawn of the Dead CJ
Universal Pictures

Crimson Peak tells the tale of Edith Cushing who marries Sir Thomas Sharpe and moves to his mansion to live with him and his sister, Lucille. Later on, it is revealed that the siblings have an incestuous relationship and have murdered people in the past.

Thomas' upbringing was a terrible one after receiving years of abuse from his mother while being manipulated by Lucille. He also did not take pleasure from the murders he was complicit with as his sister did the heavy work. But because Edith shows genuine kindness to him and his interests, Thomas decides to do good in the last hours of his life.

First, he fakes the death of his romantic rival, Alan who was stabbed by Lucille and tends to his injuries. Then, because he has truly fallen in love with Edith, he begs his sister to stop and run away with him and his wife. Lucille takes this as well as you'd expect and kills Thomas for this.

But even beyond death, he returns as a spirit to distract a murderous Lucille from killing Edith. This buys the heroine enough time to dispatch the female Sharpe for good while the spirit of Thomas is able to move on.
