10 Best Horror Movie Scenes Where Good Characters Turned Evil

4. Thomasin - The Witch

The Witch Anya Taylor Joy

Another first full-length movie now, this time from modern horror maestro Robert Eggers.

2015's The Witch (or The VVitch if you want to get clever about this) stars Anya Taylor-Joy as a young woman whose family is expelled from a religious colony in 17th Century New England.

Thomasin (Taylor-Joy's character) is held responsible for the many tragedies that befall her family following their exile. She isn't actually responsible for any of them, but she's a woman in the 1600s, so guess what? She gets accused of being a witch! Hooray!

As more and more bad things happen around Thomasin, her family's suspicions begin to grow. Eventually, every single one of her relatives succumbs to a horrible death, concluding with the young girl killing her own mother.

Whilst this was done in self-defence, what happens next was done out of pure malice. Thomasin is approached by the Devil himself, who convinces her to make a deal with him. She later joins a coven of real witches, laughing manically to close out the film.

The pressure Thomasin's family put on her drove her to become the thing she had been accused of being the entire time.

Talk about irony.
