10 Best Horror Movie Scenes Where Good Characters Turned Evil

5. Dr. William Weir - Event Horizon

The Witch Anya Taylor Joy
Paramount

A sci-fi horror cult classic, Event Horizon is about a crew of space travellers who come across the ruins of another craft that disappeared many years ago.

Things get out of hand when it's discovered that the lost ship accidentally opened a portal to another dimension, setting free a whole host of otherworldly nasties.

Do you think that's covered on the insurance?

Amongst the crew of the rescue ship is Dr. William "Billy" Weir, played by Jurassic Park's Sam Neill. Instead of using his knowledge to evade killer dinosaurs, Mr. Neill unfortunately succumbs to the alien threat.

Weir ends up possessed by the evil entity aboard the destroyed ship, pulling out his own eyeballs as a result. If you think that's gruesome, you should see what he does to everyone else.

He mercilessly hunts down and kills his former friends in exceedingly gory fashion. If you don't know what "vivisect" means, go look it up. Then imagine that happening to you. Nasty stuff.

You could argue that Weir himself wasn't the baddie, but rather the thing possessing him was. However, the demon had Sam Neill's face and body, so we think that counts.
