10 Best Horror Movie Scenes Where Good Characters Turned Evil

2. Carrie White - Carrie

The Witch Anya Taylor Joy
Warner Bros. Pictures

We're sticking with Stephen King for now. In fact, this is the very first big screen adaptation of his work. It's now one of like six billion of them.

In the 1976 version of King's 1974 book, Sissy Spacek plays Carrie White, a 16-year-old girl who gets bullied at school.

However, Carrie isn't like other girls, mainly because she's fictional, but also because she has psychic powers.

After her first period draws plenty of unwanted attention her way, Carrie thinks she's recovered when it's announced that she been voted prom queen. Unfortunately for the poor girl, this is yet another prank conducted by her ruthless classmates. As she accepts the award, her peers dump a bucket of pig's blood onto her clean white dress.

And that was the last mistake they ever made.

Carrie unleashes her full powers, setting the school gym ablaze and killing every single person inside. She then goes home, murders her abusive mother, and then ends herself too.

Whilst she was definitely pushed there, Carrie goes to a very evil place in the film's closing act. She callously kills everyone in the gym, even those who never wronged her.

She might be a sympathetic villain, but she's a villain nonetheless.
