10 Best Horror Movies Of 2019

5. Us

Little Monsters
Blumhouse

Jordan Peele's second subversive entry into the horror canon was just as impressive as the first, offering up a world where doppelgängers mysteriously appear to terrorise a family in their vacation home. Whilst Get Out is the tighter movie of the two, the impossibly high bar of the first film doesn't detract from Us's own merits, and still stands as one of the best of the lot from 2019's offerings.

Us reigns strong as a darkly comic iteration of a terrifying reality, channeling a powerful political message through the rising up of the underclass to reclaim their rightful place in the light. As a horror movie, it's beautiful to watch unfold - combining enchanting visuals with a storyline that twists and turns as much as you'd expect from a Peele special.

The cast are perfectly placed in their dual roles, the symbolism is on point, and creepy Lupita Nyong'o getting all raspy and evil is a thing we didn't know we wanted, but now desperately need. She's had a standout year for bringing personal charm to brilliantly spooky roles.
