The horror genre is one overflowing with so many subgenres, so many nuances, so many variants. Whatever flavour of movie you like, horror has something for you. With this year's Vampires vs. the Bronx, we have ourselves a barn-burner of a family-friendly horror comedy on our hands.

Pulling clear inspiration from '80s offerings such as The Goonies and Stand By Me in terms of its tone and sense of adventure, Oz Rodriguez's movie has a whole lot of charm and warmth dripping from every pore. And yes, there are obviously vampires present and accounted for in Vampires vs. the Bronx.

As gentrification begins to swell across the Bronx, it soon becomes apparent that the ominously-named Murnau Industries - F.W. Murnau being the director of the iconic 1922 German expressionist horror, Nosferatu - is maybe not all that it seems. Not just that, but some no-good bloodsuckers are seen hiding in the shadows of the Bronx - and it's down to a bunch of young friends to put into action a plan to save the day and save their local area.

A little silly and a lot of fun, Vampires vs. the Bronx is a fantastic horror feature that serves as a perfect introduction to the genre for those younger viewers, while simultaneously having plenty to keep older heads entertained.
