8. The Mortuary Collection

When done well, few types of horror movies can match a good anthology picture. Bringing together a collection of entirely different stories, often with some sense of connectivity in style or tone, the horror anthology can be a wonderful beast - with the likes of Creepshow and Trick 'r Treat standouts in this field.

As Caitlin Custer's Sam seeks employment at the local morgue in The Mortuary Collection, she prods and pokes the wonderfully-named mortician Montgomery Dark (Clancy Brown) to dish out the most disgusting and twisted details of his time spent dealing with the dead. And from there, the audience has its launch-off point for the four main tales that encompass this feature.

Making up The Mortuary Collection, there's the story of a bizarre bathroom discovery, there's a husband forced to make a terrible choice for his dying wife, there's a d**khead jock getting his comeuppance, and there's a deranged psychopath on the loose - and all held together by interwoven elaborations of the sinister and stoic Montgomery.

Like so many great horror anthologies of old, The Mortuary Collection also manages to have an undercurrent of mischievous dark humour at play throughout its storytelling, which only further adds to the appeal of Ryan Spindell's picture.
