10 Best Horror Movies Of 2023 (So Far)

2. Evil Dead Rise

Evil Dead Rise
Warner Bros.

Ten years after Evil Dead got a facelift that nobody really asked for, the series roared back into big-screen life with the Lee Cronin-directed Evil Dead Rise.

Starring Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland as two sisters, Evil Dead Rise shows just how far one family will go to take on the demonic forces of those pesky deadites.

Aside from the villains and the name of the movie, there's nothing else that links this instalment to previous films. The characters are all brand new, as is the setting.

Bruce Campbell does appear via a voice cameo, but that's because he is legally bound to be involved in anything even slightly Evil Dead related.

None of this matters though, as this picture keeps the spirit of its forebears alive and well. Okay, maybe "alive and well" was a poor choice of words considering the subject matter.

Evil Dead Rise is a thrill-a-minute, blood-soaked horror adventure which will appeal to fans of the franchise and newcomers alike. There's plenty of action, plenty of heart, and plenty of violent set pieces that will have you squealing with a mixture of glee and disgust.

You'll never look at a cheese grater the same way again.
