10 Best Horror Movies Of 2024 (So Far)

6. Stopmotion

Stopmotion 2024

The feature debut from stop motion animation filmmaker Robert Morgan, Stopmotion is one of the most visually distinctive horror films of the year so far, starring the great Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale) as a stop motion animator who begins to blur the line between her latest film project and her actual life.

Easy viewed as a metaphor for the painstaking, even torturous nature of stop motion filmmaking itself, Stopmotion is a gorgeous fusion of live-action and animation, the uncanny stop motion footage lending the film a brilliantly uncanny quality when integrated with the conventional film materials.

Franciosi is meanwhile unsurprisingly brilliant in the lead role, and while the particulars of its trauma-infused narrative aren't super original, the means through which the film contextualises them certainly makes them feel fresh.

Pair this with some sublime sound design and a suffocatingly thick atmosphere, and this is one hell of a calling card for one of the most creative voices in the genre to emerge in quite some time.
