10 Best Horror Movies Set In Amusement Parks

6. Tourist Trap (1979)

This entry may be a slight cheat, as the tourist trap in question is a small museum filled the mannequins... Not much of an amusement part, but hey, more people need to see this obscure gem.

Tourist Trap follows a group of friends that become stranded in the California desert by a seemingly abandoned museum attraction. There they meet the eccentric owner Mr. Slausen who promises to help, however as the night goes on the group begin to disappear into an ominous house on the property.

Tourist Trap is the perfect example of a snapshot of the horror genre when it was in a transitional phase. The slasher movie was beginning to boom, whilst supernatural fare was waning, so Tourist Trap covers both bases with a little bit of everything.

The slasher troupes are here as the group are picked off one-by-one, but there's also the bizarre addition of the killer having unexplained telekinetic powers... The idea of a madman turning people into mannequins should be freaky enough, but Tourist Trap steps up the oddity factor making quite the unique film.

The film is permeated with a creepy atmosphere, living mannequins, a truly bizarre woodwind score and a masked killer you definitely would not want to see looming out of the darkness at you.

Hi! The first thing you should know about me is that I'm a HUGE horror movie nut. A confirmed addict to the WhatCulture Horror YouTube channel I thought I'd try my luck on their writing team. I'm a wannabe author with one completed manuscript submitted to a few agents. Please cross your fingers for me! I am currently working on my second book. If you wanna talk horror or need any movie recommendations, I'm your man! Give me a follow on Instagram... since there doesn't seem to be a section for that in the "socials" tab @that_horror_nerd
