10 Best Horror Movies Set In Space

1. Alien

High Life
20th Century Fox

Look, obviously Alien was going to be number one.

If we'd allowed ourselves multiple films from the same franchise, then Aliens probably would have been number two. But we didn't, so let's focus on the one that started it all.

It's Ridley Scott, it's Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley, it's the Nostromo, it's John Hurt getting his tummy ripped open by a giant brown worm, it's the one, the only, 1979's Alien.

The absolutely granddaddy (or should that be grandmummy considering how much this film did for female protagonists) of space horror is the unequivocal masterpiece that is this movie.

It's got the best parts of a slasher movie - a lone killer relentlessly hunts and group of disadvantaged protagonists, picking them off one by one - with all the best parts of sci-fi - a cool spaceship, awesome lore, glorious technobabble! It's all there and it all holds up even after so many years.

So many movies on this list either inspired or were inspired by Alien, proving that is the very cream of the crop when it comes to horror movies set in the final frontier.
