10 Best Horror Movies That Aren't Supernatural
7. Don't Breathe (2016)
Like its title suggests, Fede Alvarez’s Don’t Breathe will have you holding your breath from the offset as it unfolds into a tense game of hide and seek.
Co-produced by Sam Raimi, this critically acclaimed shocker sees three career-criminal friends in desperate need of money break into a house in an abandoned neighbourhood after a tipoff that a lot of cash is kept there. Unfortunately for these young burglars, though, it turns out that the homeowner (Stephen Lang), despite being blind, is extremely capable of defending himself against the intruders. And when they become trapped in the house, he begins to hunt them down.
A nerve-wracking and highly suspenseful flick, this reverse home invasion film relies entirely on its heart-pounding tension to deliver its horror – and it succeeds tremendously. With few jump scares and no cheap tricks in sight, the final product is a visceral and often shocking horror fronted by an imposing performance by Lang that will forever change how you see turkey basters.
However, the blind man isn’t exactly an innocent victim in this situation. There’s something far more tragic and darker happening in this house than we're initially led to believe.
