10 Best Horror Movies That Take Place On A Train

7. Creep - 2004

Train to Busan
Pathé

Creep is again set on the trains and in the tunnels of the London Underground, ancient and complex and hiding horrible secrets.

Our Final Girl Kate is accidentally locked into Charing Cross Station but manages to find an empty train to board. Once she does, what was supposed to be a trip to a party turns into a night-long battle for her life against a deformed, mentally ill hermit named Craig, who captures and snacks on Underground passengers who make the mistake of stumbling into his lair.

Creep is, at heart, a nasty film. Karen is remarkably unlikeable for a Final Girl, arrogant and rude, making it difficult to root for her character until she completely breaks down at the end of the film. Craig is implied to be the result of an unsuccessful abortion attempt and is every bit the unstoppable killer that Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers is.

The kills are gory and violent (there is a particularly unpleasant scene with a bonesaw and a medical chair) and the film is full of contrasting light and shadow, allowing for genuinely frightening jump scares. The idea of some of the sets, like an abandoned abortion clinic and an underground storage facility full of cages, actually existing in the bowels of a large city is terrifying itself.

If you're looking for a slasher that feels like the golden age of the '80s, this is your film.
