10 Best Horror Movies That Take Place On A Train

4. Howl - 2015

Howl is a pleasant surprise, pitting its likeable (for the most part) working-class characters against a pack of werewolves that see a broken-down train in the middle of their hunting grounds as a buffet.

Train guard Joe is not having a good day - he lost out on a promotion and is forced to take on an unexpected overnight shift , the only consolation being that he gets to spend time with his fellow employee (and crush) Ellen. After an accident, Joe is shocked to find that the train is being besieged by werewolves killing the crew and passengers off in various nasty ways. Joe and Ellen are forced into becoming reluctant leaders and attempting to get the rapidly dwindling passengers to safety.

The movie involves two conflicts. One is with the werewolves trying to breach the train. The other, possibly more compelling one is the passengers tensely turning on each other inside the train, not sure who may have been bitten and so desperate to survive they will sacrifice the others.

Like many of the movies on this list, there is a great, extremely satisfying twist at the end that will leave you feeling that the movie gave you as much of a happy ending as possible. Howl is full of black humour and surprisingly good practical gore effects in the battles between wolf and man.

A great film for around Halloween time.
