10 Best Horror Movies That Take Place On A Train

2. Train - 2008

Train to Busan
Millennium Films

Train was made at the height of the torture porn craze. It is, in essence, Hostel on a train. It does have a neat plot twist, though, that at least layers some story onto the Hostel formula, as opposed to torture simply for the sake of torture.

A group of US college students (is there any demographic more likely to end up victimized on a torture train?) in Eastern Europe are directed to a specific train by 'kind' Dr Velislava, one that she happens to be travelling on herself. Unfortunately, this train is built for capturing and organ harvesting nubile young people (like our heroes) for wealthy Europeans.

Cue the chaos.

Final Girl Alex, (played by Thora Birch) is a game opponent for Velislava and her organization, turning the tables and outwitting them both on the train and the asylum it ends up at, gaining a satisfactory revenge for her dead friends and ending up empowered because of her experience.

Train will certainly will satisfy anyone's craving for blood and gore, and is definitely not for the squeamish. It is a perfect time capsule of mid '00s torture porn, but its setting does provide some surprising commentary on class warfare and social norms.

Train's formula sets it apart from so many Hostel ripoffs made at the same time and is a horror film that will make you think as you drink in the mayhem.
