10 Best "I Want" Songs In Animated Films

7. Quest For Camelot - "On My Father's Wings"

A gem from an under-appreciated animated film that produced the renowned classic “The Prayer”, this particular song fits the “I Want” trope to a T. Plus, it's Irish musician Andrea Corr who provides the protagonist Kayley's singing voice, and her vocal ability is simply enchanting.

Dominated by a tin whistle throughout, this Celtic-inspired musical number starts off on a slow, mournful note as Kayley speak-sings about the loss of her father, who she admired deeply. The words “You're the only one who knew, all the things we planned to do” speaks immensely of the pain she feels at having lost the only person who truly understood her.

The song then assumes a slightly up-tempo beat as Kayley, drawing strength from the spirit of her father, voices her desire to remain true to herself whilst following in his footsteps. The Irish pop rock sound that one normally associates with Corr is vibrant and highly enjoyable. The lyrics and the farmyard scenes that the song accompanies is able to bring across Kayley's longing to leave her humdrum home-life and carve out her own path to happiness.
