10 Best "I Want" Songs In Animated Films

4. Anastasia - "Once Upon A December"

A show-stopping musical number, Once Upon A December is filled to the brim with heart-stirring emotion.

A decadent blend consisting of the chimes of a music box and the richness of a Russian waltz, its melody serves as a narrative device throughout the film as Anya (singing voice provided by Liz Callaway) tries to recover the memories of her past at the Winter Palace, her former childhood home. When “Once Upon A December” is sung, a gorgeous musical sequence is given, whereupon Anya is taken back to her past.

For a moment, the palace is restored to its former glory: ghost-like beings in gowns and fine garments dance around Anya as she tries desperately to remember what it all means. Briefly, she is reunited with her family (or at least she imagines them) – watching Anya dance with her father and seeing him reach out for her as she sings the last notes of the song is bound to leave viewers in tearful states.

Callaway's mezzo-soprano voice is raw with emotion and longing here, transforming this short number into a memorable performance. Also, the melody in particular is a dutiful reminder as to why we wish to see Anya regain her memories.
