10 Best Jared Leto Performances

7. Panic Room

Jared Leto Panic Room
Columbia Pictures

Panic Room was Leto's second collaboration with David Fincher, after previously appearing as Angel Face in Fight Club. Here, he portrays the grandson of a recently deceased millionaire, hiring a crew to break into the man's panic room.

He is petulant and he also misleads his crew. He tries to act hard, when in fact he is no match for Raoul, the wiry and psychopathic hitman that he himself hired for the job.

The film has received high praise since its release, notably for its star Jodie Foster. In truth, the entire cast are on top form as can usually be expected from a Fincher project. Fincher would re-film many scenes repeatedly to ensure that he got the best from his actors.

He also shot chronologically. Leto was on board with the film from the earliest days, meaning that when Nicole Kidman was originally hired to play Meg Altman, he was in place to place Junior, though had to wait along with Forrest Whittaker, Kristen Stewart and Dwight Yoakam once Jodie Foster had come on board.

Filming was suspended after Foster revealed she was pregnant and the studio did not like the attempts to hide her pregnancy in the film by the use of costuming. Production was halted and the entire cast returned to complete what is still heralded as a fantastic example of Fincher's work.
